As a former business owner, I have a lot of empathy for all of our restaurants and bars in West Fargo (and many other businesses as well). Many of them are locally owned and all of them are doing everything they can to hang on to their business right now. It’s important for us all to help those businesses survive so when this is over we can all enjoy the company of others at those establishments.
At Monday’s West Fargo City Commission meeting I’ll be proposing to my fellow commissioners that we waive the 2020 liquor license fees that would be due in June of this year. It amounts to less than a $100,000 to the city (in total). I’m a believer that there are a lot of small decisions we can make as a community that will let us all come through this together. If passed, this is a small step and I’m hopeful there are many more actions we can take to help our local economy make it through these challenging times.
It’s an understatement to say that it’s challenging times. As a parent, I see it in the eyes of my son who desperately wants to spend time with friends. That said, I’ve enjoyed listening to him talk with his teacher this week via Microsoft Teams (way to go West Fargo Public Schools) or friends he talks with via his Xbox. Living through this might make us all understand the importance of those connections a little more.
If you want to help…order in tonight from one of our fine West Fargo businesses that are doing delivery or curbside pickup!
