Hi — I’m Eric Gjerdevig, a lifelong resident of West Fargo, North Dakota, and a proud graduate of West Fargo High School’s Class of 1993. I earned my undergraduate business degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead and later completed my master’s degree at the University of North Dakota. My wife, Sara, and I are blessed with two amazing children, two granddaughters, and two Labrador retrievers, who keep life active and fun.
My professional journey began in 1998 at Great Plains Software. I later continued my career with Microsoft, gaining valuable experience in technology, business operations, and leadership. In 2005, I took an entrepreneurial leap and founded Summit Group Software, a technology consulting firm headquartered in West Fargo. Over the next 13 years, I had the privilege of leading Summit Group as an employee-owned company, earning industry recognition and building a talented team focused on innovation and client success. In January 2018, Summit Group was successfully acquired, marking the close of an incredibly rewarding chapter in my career.
That same year, I was elected to serve on the West Fargo City Commission. I served one term from 2018 to 2022, working on initiatives that supported responsible growth, strong infrastructure, and community development. While I chose not to seek re-election, public service remains an important part of who I am and how I stay connected to the community that has given me so much.
I’ve been employed at North Dakota State University since Fall of 2018, where I teach Professional Selling and serve as the Director of the NDSU Center for Professional Selling and Sales Technology. I’m passionate about helping students build practical, real-world skills that prepare them for successful careers. Whether in the classroom, the business world, or the community, I believe in clear communication, thoughtful leadership, and creating opportunities for others to grow.
West Fargo isn’t just where I live — it’s home. My career, my family, and my service have all been shaped here, and I remain committed to contributing to the continued strength and success of our community. It’s with that mindset that I have decided to once again put my name on the ballot this June with hopes of serving West Fargo as Mayor.
