So, I am a huge fan of Fall. I love the weather, the holidays, less humidity, no mosquitos, and not least of all…I love to hunt. I actually enjoy taking the dock out at the lake on Labor Day weekend because of what it signifies. It starts in September with a lot of duck hunting and transitions into the first few weeks of pheasant hunting in October. Things shift into high gear as we hit the deer opener and ends with late season pheasant hunting. As I write this I’m watching the snow coming down but am still hopeful to shoot a few more pheasants this year!
The highlight of the Fall this year hasn’t been limiting out but instead watching my son shoot trap for the first time. He smoked the very first one (here is the video).
Deer hunting to me reminds me of my grandfather who always seemed 20 years younger and two steps faster on the opening weekend of deer season. Deer opener is about the memories and stories of past hunts and hunters passed. It’s about passing those stories and traditions forward and creating some new ones along the way. The joy of hunting is the journey, not the end result.
Good hunting! Here are a few pictures from 2019.
