First Camping Trip of 2019

My son and I set a goal in 2018 to visit every North Dakota State Park.  We made it to about half of them in 2018 and have plans to visit the rest (and some duplicate parks) in 2019.  Our first trip of the year was over the first few days of July.  We visited Little Missouri State Park, Sully Creek State Park, and Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The plan for the first night was camping in Little Missouri State Park.  However, shortly after pitching our tent my son’s friend became sick and we ended up driving back to Bismarck to meet up with his dad.  Not the start to our trip that we wanted but we did squeeze in a short hike and will certainly be back in future years to explore more of the trails.

After a lot of driving our first day we made it to Medora on the second morning.  After a drive through Theodore Roosevelt National Park we checked into the camp ground at Sully Creek State Park.  What this park lacks in amenities (no visitor center) it makes up for in some incredible views!  We biked a short distance of the Maah Daah Hey trail before visiting the Medora Musical that evening.  Sully Creek is on a short list of our favorite parks in North Dakota.
