2019 Bourbon Battle – Round 2

Welcome to the 2nd Round of the 2019 Bourbon Battle!  This battle is a little more of a rumble instead of the knockout we had in Round 1.  These three are pretty different and all have their unique qualities.  Tonight’s battel includes:

  1. Henry McKenna Single Barrel (10 Year)
  2. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof – B517 (12 year)
  3. Bulleit (10 year)

Henry McKenna Single Barrel (10 Year)

This bourbon begins with an old appearance to the bottle and label.  It’s a complex experience with multiple levels.  The taste is filled with oak and is very nice. The finish is long and spicy. This is a really good bourbon and well worth what it costs.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof- B517 (12 year)

A classic bourbon whiskey profile.  The finish is long and warms your insides like it should.  This is a very highly rated bourbon, but I find it needs a little ice/water to temper the high proof.  This is a premium drink.

Bulleit (10 Year)

Bulleit 10 is easy to drink with very little bite on the tongue. The burn was gone way too soon and left little behind to remember it. This is great for people relatively new to bourbon. It’s highly approachable and easy to sip neat.

This is a challenge to pick a winner simply because I really like all three bourbons.  So, the best bourbon is clearly Elijah Craig (winner) but I must admit I really enjoy the easy drinking nature of Bulleit.
