The Summer of 2018 included camping trips throughout North Dakota with my son (and a few friends of his). We visited numerous State Parks and Recreation Areas including Icelandic, Turtle River, Cross Ranch, Fort Ransom, Pembina Gorge and Fort Abraham Lincoln. A new experience (that we literally stumbled upon by accident) is geocaching!
In recapping these trips, we had a different opinion on which was our favorite.
My 8-year old son picked Cross Ranch State Park. This was heavily because we stayed in an air-conditioned yurt with a full kitchen and bathroom. I won’t deny the accommodations were spectacular but I’m not sure you can call it ‘camping’.
My favorite camping location was Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. Here we slept in a teepee! This was far more primitive but was a great experience! The kids swam in the Missouri River (about 30 feet behind our teepee).
We also took the time to drop by some relatives in Halliday, ND to feed the cows! The boys thought this was a lot of fun!
We look forward to visiting all North Dakota State Parks in 2019 (watch for our blog posts on each next Summer)!
